Gay TAIPEI Guide & What you need to know!

A short guide to planning a successful gay holiday in Taipei.

Red House district Taipei

The Red House District is home to Taipei’s main gay area and home to more than 20+ bars. Every night the terraces fill up and locals and tourists mingle. The atmosphere is warm and friendly

Taipei is one of Asia’s top gay destinations with a lively gay scene centered around the Red House District. The city has all the ingredients for a perfect gay escape, tropical weather, superb cuisine, great shopping and sexy locals.

The native Taiwanese guys are one of the region’s main attractions. This combined with a cruising beach, world famous circuit parties, hot springs, sexy saunas and even and S&M bar make the city a must-visit for guys from around the region. The gay scene is open and tolerant. The scene is quite mixed with Muscle Bears mixing it up cubs and pandas.

The city is easy to navigate. Cabs are plentiful and cheap. Most of the gay scene is spread along the transit lines of The Red House entertainment district in Ximen, the Zhongshan area to the north and Zhongshan Dunhua to the east of the city.

Most of the upscale hotels are located in the Xinyi district. The W Hotel is at the centre of gay life with several pool parties and themed nights taking place during key events such as pride and New years.

Gay visitors tend to stay within the central districts around Ximending where you will find lots of comfortable budget and 4 star hotel options.

Taipei is especially popular during public bank holidays with large dance parties attracting visitors in record numbers from nearby Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Thailand and South Korea.

  • Where to Stay

We love the Xinyi district as it has some of the best hotels in the city. The gay bars and clubs are within a short taxi ride away. Book early for key events as hotels sell out well in advance.

  • Taipei Weather & Climate

Taipei has a semi-tropical climate.  Summers are hot and humid with occasional rain, while winters can be quite chilly and often foggy.  While the temperature is never too extreme throughout the year, the most pleasant season to visit is the fall.  February to April can be wet and humid. May to October is home to the typhoon season.
